Fylde Liberal Democrats have been following the furore over the 'over zealous' way in which the county council-controlled Parkwise organisation have been affecting our town centres. Parking has become a real nightmare and some motorists may have been fined illegally for alleged minor parking infringements. The draconian application of parking fines and prosecutions for being a few centimetres outside a designated parking bay are driving shoppers, visitors and business people out of our towns with a consequent effect on our local economy. Trading conditions are already difficult for many local shops especially in St. Anne's where businesses are being severally hit by the closure of the bridge on the Crescent.
Fylde Libdems are united in their efforts to bring some sense to the situation. We want to see vibrant shopping centres which are a pleasure to visit, not rules, regulations, and 'jobsworths' that literally oblige people to shop elsewhere by levying fines for the most minor of infringements. Local Liberal Democrats are determined to force the council review the contract with Parkwise so that the 'award-winning' good work undertaken by Fylde in St Anne's town centre is not wasted because shoppers and visitors are being forced elsewhere.
