Libdem Leader Howard Henshaw has criticised the ruling Tory group on Fylde Borough Council for electing a relative novice as Mayor. The Tories have had to cast around for a new Mayor after Mayor-elect Colin Walton was booted out of his ward by an Independent, a Ratepayer and newly elected Liberal Democrat Councillor Tony Ford. Cllr. Henshaw feels that a more senior councillor should have been selected as Mayor and that the Tory group have gone against an unwritten protocol. "Being Mayor should be a reward for long service to the council." cited Howard, Libdem Councillor for St. Leonard's Ward. "Its a disgrace! " Howard believes that the Tories have broken an unwritten pact that the longest serving cross- party councillor should be selected.
