Residents of St Leonard's and Ashton Wards are up in arms about a plan to build 11 new flats on the site of the old Depot buildings on the corner of St David's Rd and Heeley Rd.
Describe as a 'Hostel' by many, this proposal is causing a great deal of anguish to local residents who fear an increase in crime and disorder in the area should this go ahead. Whilst Fylde Borough Council needs to provide accommodation for homeless people this proposal has been poorly managed in terms of 'near neighbour' notification and public relations.
'The aim is to is to provide temporary accommodation at affordable rents for local people who are awaiting permanent accommodation and in need of support with their tenancies. As well as the flats there will be communal facilities and facilities for the support staff within the building.' (FBC/Muir Group)
Two 'stormy' meetings have already been held; one with the developers and a further meeting is scheduled for November 27th at Mayfield School. Residents have made a very strong call for the planning application to be delayed to allow them a more reasonable time period to lodge their objections.
