Fylde Lib Dems back plan to cut carbon footprint

Cutting our carbon footprint

RADICAL plans agreed by the Liberal Democrats to cut down on pollution have been backed by members of the Fylde party. Professor Bill Winlow prospective parliamentary candidate for Fylde Liberal Democrats recently met Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment and leadership contender, Chris Huhne MP, to show his support for the plans.

"Global climate change and extreme weather conditions are the biggest challenges we face over the next few decades," said Bill.

"The freak storms and the damage they have caused throughout the summer will happen more and more often if we don't take action to cut our carbon emissions, the main form of pollution leading to climate change.

"It is widely accepted that the amount of carbon we emit, known as a 'carbon footprint', needs to be cut to slow down the rate of global warming and climate change.

"Here on the Fylde coast we face the prospect of flooding in low-lying areas if nothing is done to reverse global warming and little is being done to improve our coastal defences.

"Liberal Democrats have argued that we need to start taking action now to change to greener and cleaner lifestyles. Our plans will massively improve railways to encourage more people to leave their cars at home.

"We will also reward people who drive cleaner, low-pollution vehicles by scrapping the car tax they currently pay.

"Liberal Democrats have set out a vision of a 'carbon neutral' Britain by the year 2050. We want our country by the middle of this century to emit, overall, no carbon pollution.

"It will be a challenge to reach the goal but if we start now, we can ensure the extreme and damaging weather conditions we have suffered this summer will remain freak, rather than annual, events."
