Councillors on Protest March against Pool Closures
Ashton Ward Councillor Tony Ford and St. Leonard's Ward Councillor joined 2000 other protesters on the march to save St. Anne's Pool from threatened closure by the ruling Tory Group on Fylde BC. Karen Henshaw brought her specially adapted hat to give a different twist to the Save our Pools campaign. The proposed closures have come about through the Tory group's mismanagement of the council's budget. They are faced with an overspend of over £1 million pounds and they feel that denying children access to a local swimming pool is the way to solve the problem. Liberal Democrats and other Opposition councillors had suggested other areas where cuts could be made.
