Post Offices under threat
The Conservatives are attacking Labour for closing post offices but I have just seen a Conservative 'intouch' leaflet that headlines ' Labour close Lytham Post Office' Maybe we should remember that during the Conservative Government 1979 to 1997 some 3500 sub post offices and nearly 1000 main post offices were closed. Moreover 'liberalisation' allowed the most lucrative bits of the Royal Mail were creamed off to competition but still leaving it with the 'universal service' obligation not imposed on the competition. Finally during the dying years of the Tory Government some £2bn was taken from the Post Office virtually none of which was re-invested in the system. Mike Turner Fylde Libdems
