Fairer Council Tax could save the pool
If Council Tax was even remotely fair we could probably keep the St. Anne's swimming baths open. The valuation of a property in the highest band H is eight mes more than in the lowest band A. But according to the Fylde Council web site those with band H properties will only pay some three times what band A owners will pay. Same applies to Wyre & probably Blackpool. Now I know the argument that you can live in a band H house and still have a low income, which is why the Liberal Democrats propose a much fairer local income tax to replace council tax altogether. But we have the system we've got and as usual it is those at the bottom who wind up paying disproportionately. (Mike Turner - forwarded to Blackpool Gazette)
