Letter to Editor
I must take issue with John Madden (UKIP) (Express, Nov 13th) regarding the issue of British membership of the European Union. Like him, I take Remembrance Sunday very seriously and always have done. We must not forget those have died, and others who are still giving their lives, for our freedom from oppression. However, I see the European Union as a great bastion of that freedom.
We have had peace between the states of the EU for the last 63 years, due largely to our mutual interdependence. Yes, there are problems with the European Union, but none of them are insoluble and I would rather talk with our European friends and colleagues than have to fight against them. To my mind that is best achieved by remaining a strong and articulate member of the EU.
