Congratulations to St Anne's Town Council which has managed to acquire the 100 year old pendant, originally owned by the former St Annes on the Sea Urban District Council. It is good to see the pendant coming back into use in its home town.
The Silver Gilt heart-shaped pendant was languishing in Fylde Borough Council's cellars but has now been refurbished by the Town Council and is being worn with pride by St Anne's Mayor Councillor Barbara Mackenzie.
"It is fitting that the fine craftsmanship and historic detailing will be on show again at key events, giving the public the opportunity to appreciate its beauty. The pendant will help to boost local pride in their town," commented Cllr. Tony Ford.
In recognition of the historical connection of the pendant to the parish of St Annes Fylde Borough Council leaders made the decision to pass the pendant to St Annes Town Council in a symbolic gesture.
The Town Council have had the Pendant restored to its former glory to enable it to be used for civic ceremonies once again. The pendant will be officially presented to the Mayor of St Annes, Councillor Barbara Mackenzie at the beginning of the Council Meeting next week.
The handing over of the Pendant comes at a very opportune moment with Communities Secretary Hazel Blears outlining plans to encourage new town and parish councils to be set up so that more decision-making powers are devolved to local people. She is quoted as saying that she particularly wanted to see more set up in urban areas.
St. Anne's Town Council has ambitious plans to expand its own sphere of operations and perhaps now is the ideal time for the people of Lytham to get together to set up their own Town Council ?
