Championing the cause of local residents
Councillor Howard Henshaw led the opposition to the renewed planning application for the Westgate Road Development which was again recommended for
approval by the planning officers. Howard spoke forcibly that there had been no material changes to the original application and that the same three reasons for refusal were therefore relevant i.e.
1. Insufficient airport parking and therefore further congestion on Westgate and the neighbouring roads.
2. Lack of open space for children to play.
3.The scale and massing of the proposed apartment blocks would be
inappropriate in this location and contrary to Policy HL2 of the local plan.
Wayne Brandon, followed by several other Westgate Road residents also spoke well against the development.
Councillor Henshaw then proposed refusal of the application, which was seconded by Coun.Barbara Padgett of Ashton Ward. The votes cast were 9 for refusal and 3 against. The application was therefore refused. Many thanks to all Westgate Road residents for their support !
