In a lengthy Editorial the Observer of 31st May 2009 said: "On the environment,on civil liberties, and on the mounting debt bubble, the Lib Dems were quietly but consistently ahead of the Westminster curve" AND [on moves by Labour & Conservatives to exempt Parliament from the Freedom of Information Act - now we know why] "The Lib Dems alone took a party line for openness." AND finally: "This Thursday's vote ------ should be about Europe; it will be about the expenses scandal. On both counts , it is a moment to reward the principled consistency of the Liberal Democrats"
Andrew Rawnsley, in the same paper under the headline " The Lib Dems alone are truly serious about voting reform" said: " Whatever Gordon Brown or David Cameron say, their new enthusiasm for changing our political system is deeply unconvincing.
