The recent crop of Council by-election results suggest a continuing disillusion with main stream parties. Independents gained seats on Streonshalh Ward of Scarborough Borough Council and Holsworthy Ward of Torridge District Council from us although in Torridge our share of the vote went up by 2.8%. It was worse news for the Conservatives. They lost the Hertford Ward of Scarborough BC to the Greens, came third in Streonshalh and also in Bridgend. Their share of the vote dropped in every case. The Tories hung on by a mere 8 votes in the Gaywood Chase Ward of Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council but here also their share of the vote fell by 17.4%. On these results the anticipated Tory victory at the forthcoming General Election is by no means certain.
