A much needed and popular North Beach Car Park
Almost 100 St. Anne's residents put Tory council leader John Coombes on the spot over plans to build on the North Beach Car Park. He faced a barrage of questions over the proposals which would see an intensive housing development on a much used car park.
Residents became frustrated with responses that linked the car park 'sell-off' to the provision of a new Town Hall. Neither John Coombes nor Cllr. Buckley (St Leonard's Ward) would commit themselves to being for or against the proposals but Libdem councillors Tony Ford and Howard Henshaw both spoke out strongly against the loss of the car park as it exists at present.
Cllr. Ford, this years's Town Mayor, reiterated the objections of the St. Anne's Town Council's planning committee. These objections were endorsed by ALL the Town Councillors, two of whom are Conservative councillors on Fylde Borough.
The Save the North Beach Car Park Group are to be congratulated on organising the Public Meeting at such short notice, so giving residents chance to hear all the arguments prior to voicing their objections. No one spoke in favour of selling off this important amenity.
