Full marks to Cllr. Tony Ford who has raised issues about the non-attendance of councillors at meetings of Fylde Borough Council. With the current furore about a Conservative Blackpool councillor who has attended only 2 meetings but collected a £7,000 allowance, now is the right time to ask whether we are getting value for money from those elected to represent us. Even though allowances for councillors with no special responsibilities are nowhere near as high in Fylde as they are in Blackpool, Cllr. Ford has asked for greater accountability, with attendance figures published on a regular basis, so that the electorate have information on which to make their decisions in May 2011.
