Bill Winlow fighting to save St. Anne's Tip
The Liberal Democrat campaign to keep the tip open continued this week, when we were invited to a meeting at the site. This involved county councillors together with Mike Devaney the chair of the task group, which is looking into these proposals first published in 2008. He has been inundated with protests from right across the county about the threat posed to some of the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Cllr. Devaney listened to what we had to say and has taken on board the views that we previously submitted with our 1500 strong petition. The Liberal Democrats were impressed that he also took the trouble to spend some time at the Saltcotes site, and can now appreciate the highway issues associated with the entrance to the site that we raised several months ago.
It is worth noting that it is the Liberal Democrats who have protested long and hard about these proposals. It is the Liberal Democrats who have been at the tip on successive weekends collecting signatures, writing letters and lobbying the relevant county council members. It's the Liberal Democrats who have mounted a Save our Tip campaign. Once again Bill Winlow our prospective parliamentary candidate in the forthcoming General Election has been leading by example, collecting petition signatures and lobbying other members of the committee in advance of a decision in May.
Other councillors appear to have shown little interest at all. It does make you wonder whether the other parties are really bothered or even know about what's going on?
