Town Mayor Cllr. Tony Ford was one of the first swimmers to use the reopened St. Anne's pool this morning.
Protests at pool closure
The Pool was closed by the Conservatives in 2008, despite a furore in the media, protest marches and the intervention of local businesses and the then Fylde MP Michael Jack. It has finally reopened after considerable public pressure and is now run by Fylde YMCA who have a proven track record of managing leisure facilities across the north west.
On this the first morning, more than 30 people took advantage of the quiet of the pool at 7am to have a relaxing early morning swim. It does seem that people power, and the loss of two key county council seats in the 2009 elections prompted the ruling group on Fylde BC to have a re-think and as a result the facility has been brought back into use.
Fylde Liberal Democrats protested strongly against the closure and welcome its re-opening. We urge everyone on the Fylde to support the pool so that it isn't threatened with closure again.
