Phil MORGAN for Rural East Fylde

I moved to Newton with Scales in 2020, and for the last 2 years I have been on the Newton with Clifton Parish Council, becoming Vice Chair last year. My partner Angela has lived here for 30 years and brought up her children here. Together we have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

My passion, and indeed most of my working life, has been spent promoting resident involvement in housing and communities;  I was a Chief Executive for 10 years and a Councillor of 5 years, and have been a Healthwatch Chair for 7 years and a Housing Association Board member for 11 years.

I always look to work with others and welcome the contribution many people make, in many different ways, to make our communities a success. As your local Councillor I pledge to work in partnership and to be a strong effective voice for our communities. I will ensure that the voices of Rural East Fylde residents are heard loud and clear in Fylde Borough Council’s Town Hall.

This election in Rural East Fylde is going to be like no other, as the Lib Dems and the Independents have agreed to mutually endorse each other’s candidates, believed to be a first for Fylde. The new Ward of Rural East Fylde includes what was the Newton with Treales Ward which has been held by two Independents – Heather Speak and Peter Collins, jointly for nearly 20 years. Heather Speak is not seeking re-election this time round, but has given her endorsement, as has Peter Collins, to Phil Morgan of the Lib Dems.

I want to say a big thank you to Heather Speak, who is standing down as a local councillor after 23 years on Fylde Council. Her contribution has been immense. I am grateful for Heather Speak’s endorsement, and also for Peter Collins’ endorsement too. I reciprocally endorse Peter Collins, who I’ve served with on the Newton with Clifton Parish Council.

The current Kilnhouse Lib Dem councillor, Karen Henshaw JP, has sat with the Independent Group on Fylde Council for many years to ensure accountability for the Conservative run This Council. In the same vein, I pledge to also work constructively with the Independent Group if elected. I would never side with the Conservatives who have done too little to listen to our communities about planning, the environment and services.
